Mamoiada's Carnival Mask

The typical mask of Mamoiada's Sardinian carnival is made by Satodà entirely by hand using resin, leather and wood. It is expertly handcrafted and accompanied by a leather strap. Satodà's Sardinian craftsmanship mask draws inspiration from the most famous and ancestral figure of Mamoiadine Carnival: the Mamuthone, a black and frowning face with strong and heavy features. The mask is produced using different types of wood such as fig, alder, elm, up to chestnut or walnut. The wood that was used in antiquity is the wild pear tree.
