Sardinian Chest - foot of the bed

The Sardinian chest is made with solid chestnut wood by Falegnameria Fara. It is decorated and carved entirely by hand, and has a wide opening from above. The decoration represents two specimens of lapwing, the typical animal of Sardinian handicraft tradition. It is a good-wishes symbol for fertility, agricultural and pastoral abundance. The decorations and the carvings of the Sardinian chest are painted in the typical light blue of the island furnishings. Traditionally, the chest was used to contain the precious kit of the bride. It can be placed at the bed's end or against the wall.
